Got Chickens?

Sometimes things have to get really bad before they can become good again.

As painful as the current situation is, deep down inside we all knew something had been off track for quite some time. The day of reckoning had to come.

And so it did. And now here we are.

That good times can follow bad is something we all need to keep in mind right now. Clearly the current economy is exceedingly painful. I know we’re sure feeling it at Westside Today.

Publishing is not an easy field in which to be these days. Then again, I suppose nothing is all that terrific right now, unless you are a bankruptcy attorney. Even then, ya still gotta get paid – maybe in chickens?

If you are an advertiser and want to pay your advertising bill in chickens, give us a call, we’re very creative people here!

If you have any wealthy friends who want to be a media mogul, please put these friends in touch with me. We’ve got some great ideas in need of backing.

I know the timing is ridiculous to be thinking expansionary thoughts, but I can’t help myself, it’s who we are, it’s what we do. I’m hoping these bad times are actually opportunities in disguise.  Let’s figure out a way to keep marching here, everyone. At some point we’ll get to higher ground.

The night of the election, Alvin Coats, our general manager, called me at home. He could hardly get three words out, he was so choked up.

Like almost everyone I knew, Alvin was beyond excited. Unlike most here on the Westside, Alvin is African-American.  Alvin said, between sobs, that he told his son that he now has no excuses, that he too could be president someday.

It took us a long time to get to this place in history. We honor those people who led the way by staying the course.

Clearly the Obama team is gearing up to hit the ground running. Instinctively he knows that current travails could lead to historic breakthroughs.

We need to do our part, right here in our own backyard.

For our part, as we tighten our belts with our print edition, we continue to expand our web operations. If there’s something you think you’re not seeing in the magazine, go to our website, www.WestsideToday.com, it might be there.

Times will get better, they always do. We can do this, yes we can!
