New Developments Made Possible by the West Los Angeles Leasing Act Co-Authored by Lieu and Senator Feinstein in 2016

Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) joined VA Secretary Denis McDonough and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass at the grand opening of two new supportive housing units for veterans and their families at the West Los Angeles VA. The newly opened Buildings 205 and 208 are part of the VA’s ongoing efforts to provide supportive housing for veterans and follow the opening of a 59-unit building on campus in February.
Rep. Lieu and Senator Dianne Feinstein co-authored the West Los Angeles Leasing Act in 2016, which allowed the VA to partner with nonprofits to build housing for homeless veterans and create a framework plan for the revitalization of the campus. The opening of the new housing units is a testament to the hard work of community leaders, activists, and veterans who have come together to support this project.
The new buildings will provide safe and reliable homes for 120 unhoused and at-risk veterans and their families. In addition to Buildings 205 and 208, the VA announced three new lease agreements for the construction of 264 additional permanent supportive housing units on the West LA VA Campus expected to open in 2024 and 2025.
Rep. Lieu expressed his commitment to continuing to work with Secretary McDonough and the Biden Administration, Mayor Bass, and local advocates and leaders to finally end veteran homelessness.
