The coroner’s office Monday released the name of a 22- year-old woman killed when she lost control of the vehicle she was driving and crashed as she tried to get on the Hollywood (101) Freeway in Studio City, injuring her 28-year-old passenger.
She was Samantha Martinez, according to the coroner’s office. The accident occured at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday on Ventura Boulevard, just west of Lankershim Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police.
Martinez was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed when she tried to turn onto the 101 Freeway and lost control of her car, the LAPD said. The woman’s car first hit a wooden power pole, slammed into a chain link fence, then crashed into a metal light pole on the driver’s side.
The Canoga Park woman, suffered blunt force trauma and died at the scene, the LAPD said.
The unidentified passenger, from Thousand Oaks, was hospitalized with minor injuries.
