Backstage was full of excitement as the Coronet Debutantes dressed for their debut at the 62nd Coronet Debutante Ball in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Saturday evening November 26.
The Gold twins, Caitlyn and Jessica, zipped up each other’s gowns. Meanwhile, Miranda Curry practiced the courtly bow. Elizabeth Johnson buttoned up her long white gloves. Millicent Kasten put her hands in the pink carnation-covered muff that each girl will wear for her presentation. Marcella McCarthy and Gwendolyn Lee talked to Catherine Shaw and Emma Thalken about the music they have selected for their time in the spotlight. Kristen Zlokovich remained calm as she knew she was going to be the last Deb to step through the huge floral-covered coronet. Brooke Von Der Ahe and Claire Wagner chatted about the waltz they would dance with their fathers before the escorts cut in. Due to travel Jennifer Olofson was presented in absentia.
For six years these high school seniors have dedicated their time to a variety of community service programs.
At 9 p.m. the house lights dimmed as the Ball Director, Melinda Jones, escorted the Presenter, Michael Donahue, to the podium. Mr. Donahue greeted the audience of family and friends, then he announced “Presenting†and the elegant Debutante Ball commenced.
Proceeds from the Coronet Debutante Ball will go to the National Charity League, Los Angeles Chapter for their philanthropic projects.
