“A Refugee Camp in the Heart of the City†is coming to Santa Monica from October 31 through November 2. The educational exhibit features real aid workers from refugee camps in places such as Iraq, Colombia and Sudan who will guide visitors through an 8,000-square-foot exhibit made of actual materials that Doctors Without Borders use in their humanitarian medical facilities in the field. Visitors will experience refugee housing, nutrition and vaccination tents, cholera treatment center and a health clinic.
Aid workers will tell their stories and share their personal experiences about the challenges of building shelter, finding food and clean water, and handling waste disposal to aid internally displaced persons (IDP) in their quest for basic survival.
The exhibit will be on display in the parking lot north of the Santa Monica Pier.
