A vacant lot that once housed a church in Westwood Village may soon be a multi-story apartment complex for UCLA faculty housing.
The project involves the development of apartment-style units for UCLA faculty housing on the approximately a 0.6-acre site located northeast of the intersection of Hilgard Avenue and Lindbrook Drive.
UCLA purchased the Project site in August 2018 from the Twenty-eighth Church of Christ, Scientist. The church auditorium that previously occupied the project site was demolished by the church in 2017, leaving the site vacant.
According to a UCLA report, the project would involve the development of one residential structure up to 78-feet high and up to 7-levels. There would be approximately 120,000 gross square feet of residential building space to accommodate up to 100 apartment units with an interior landscaped courtyard. Two levels of subterranean parking would also be provided.
Access to the lobby and subterranean parking levels would be provided from Hilgard Avenue while secondary pedestrian access would be provided from Lindbrook Drive.
Santa Monica-based architecture firm Moore Ruble Yudell is the project designer.
Because the faculty housing development would be on property owned by UCLA, it is not subject to Los Angeles city zoning restrictions and the approval processes.
UCLA anticipates to construction be completed over a roughly a 25-month period, beginning in October 2020.
