A national roadshow campaigning against fracking will be making its final California stop in West Los Angeles tonight, as a handful of speakers will lead a rally in an attempt to inform people of the potential impacts of injecting into the ground to free up oil.

Entitled “Cautionary Tales from Fracked Communities” the roadshow event will take place at 6 p.m. at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 11555 National Boulevard.

An envoy of people from across the United States will speak at tonight’s event of how fracking has directly impacted their respective lives.

“Speakers from Colorado and New York will share their firsthand accounts of lives disrupted by the fracking industry and, along with local grassroots activists, talk with Californians about how to protect their communities from fracking,” organizers said in a statement.

Those speaking at the event include Ron Brueske from Longmont, Colo., Deborah Cipolla-Dennis from Dryden, N.Y., and Shane Davis from Fort Collins, Colo.

Davis, an activist and research biologist, founded the watchdog blog fractivist.org and, according to the event’s organizers, “publishes investigative articles about the adverse environmental and health impacts of fracking.”

Arriving in California from Maryland, the roadshow will head for North Carolina later this month.

Earlier this month, the City of Los Angeles unanimously voted to take steps to ban fracking within its borders.

The event tonight is organized by member groups of Stop The Frack Attack, 350.org, Earthjustice, Center for Biological Diversity, Moveon.org, Global Exchange, Center on Race Poverty and the Environment, Clean Water Action, Earth Works, Credo Action, and Food and Water Watch.

“The Cautionary Tales from Fracked Communities national tour features activists who share their firsthand accounts of lives disrupted by the fracking industry,” organizers stated. “The tour has made stops in a series of states threatened by fracking, including Maryland, and will continue on to North Carolina.”

In addition to Los Angeles, the California tour included Merced and Sacramento, among others.
