FREE admission for all at Hammer Museum

“Portrait of Monsieur Jacquest† by Edgar Degas and “Dog Seated† by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
The Hammer Museum of Art at UCLA is sharing a gift everyone will appreciate this holiday season — one of California’s best art collections. The occasion is the Hammer Museum’s own twentieth anniversary. To celebrate this milestone, the Hammer will offer free admission to all for 20 days, starting November 26 and ending December 18.

This free admission gift will include cinema screenings at the Museum’s Wilder Theater and special lectures. On December 1, Mark Flores’ mural of images taken from Sunset Boulevard will be presented in detail at 12:30. On December 8, visitors will be introduced to rare works by Oscar Kokoshka.

When you visit, you and your guests will see why the Hammer Museum is considered one of California’s best art collections. The Hammer has three original works by Vincent Van Gough and several dozen paintings by the most admired French impressionists — Paul Cezanne, Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro and many more. In the picture at right you see two great examples, “Portrait of Monsieur Jacquest†by Edgar Degas and “Dog Seated†by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.

Select works by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec offer a special opportunity to build on your experiences at the special exhibition, “Toulouse-Lautrec’s Paris.†This is on view at the San Diego Museum of Art until December 8. Paintings by many artists featured in LACMA’s special exhibition “American Stories†are also on view — Mary Cassatt, Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent, to name a few.

The Hammer Museum also hosts a rare exhibition of satirical art and political cartoons. It houses a special collection of posters, prints and etchings called the Grunwald Collection. Highlights of this collection will be on display during the free admission program.

The Museum is located in Westwood at 10899 Wilshire Boulevard, just a half-mile east of the 405 Freeway. Parking is not free, but it is reasonable, just $3.00 in the Oxy building lot with validation from the Hammer Museum. For group tour reservations and information, call 310-443-7041
