A planned free concert by the rapper Future at the House of Blues in West Hollywood tonight was canceled by club management “because too many people showed up,” a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Fox11 reported House of Blues management decided to cancel the concert after fans rushed the entrance.
The cancellation was announced at 10:15 p.m., 15 minutes after the concert was to begin.
The throng of fans at the House of Blues forced the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to close Sunset Boulevard to through traffic from Kings Road to La Cienega Boulevard around 10:30 p.m.
The closure was the second on the street today.
The stretch from Doheny Road to San Vicente Boulevard was closed at 1 p.m. when an overflow of several hundred fans showed up outside the original venue, the Roxy in the 9000 block of Sunset Boulevard, a few blocks west of the House of Blues.
The venue announced via Twitter about 4 p.m. that the show had been canceled. By then, deputies had gotten the crowd onto the sidewalk.
The closed portion of Sunset Boulevard was reopened about 4:40 p.m.
After the crowd had dispersed, Future announced via Twitter and Instagram that his show would take place at the nearby House of Blues at 8430 Sunset Blvd. beginning at 10 p.m.
According to his post, the first 800 people “to line up at the venue are guaranteed entrance.”
