The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 17th consecutive day, decreasing 1 cent to $2.869.
The average price has dropped 10.9 cents over the past 17 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The declines began immediately after the average price rose to its highest amount since Jan. 14.
The average price is 4.6 cents less than one week ago, 5.1 cents lower than one month ago and $1.376 below what it was one year ago.
The streak of dropping prices is the longest since a 24-day streak from Feb. 2-25.
The Orange County average price dropped 1 cent to $2.851. The average price has decreased for 16 consecutive days, dropping 11.3 cents, including 1.3 cents on Thursday.
The Orange County average price is 5.5 cents less than one week ago and one month ago and $1.369 below what it was one year ago.
The streak of dropping prices is the longest since a 25-day streak from Feb. 1-25.
“Last year, some large California refineries were suffering from a number of unexpected problems, which led to higher gas prices during the peak driving season,” said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager
“Refineries are running more smoothly this summer, which has helped prices remain cheaper than a year ago.”
