Goodbye, Hunger – Hello, Vitameal!

The leaders of Nu Skin Enterprises and the Nourish the Children Initiative have decided to change the way so many of us see the world – with blinders on. Yes, starvation is still thriving in the 21st century; in fact, five million children die each year from malnutrition.

Perhaps you have donated to charities, but how can you be sure that your money really fed a malnourished child? Even if your money paid for food, this “nourishment,†in the form of rice, may fill a child’s stomach but it does not provide the nutrition necessary to sustain a healthy life.

Nu Skin Enterprises paired their own Ph.D scientists with child malnutrition expert Dr. Ken Brown of the University of California, Davis to help find a solution to this problem.

The result? VitaMeal – a food designed especially to meet the needs of malnourished children.

One bag of VitaMeal will feed a child for a month. It provides a balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat and fiber; essential fatty acids for brain development and immune defense; electrolytes to maintain fluid balance and muscle function; 25 essential vitamins and minerals; and many more benefits.

“The mission of Nu Skin Enterprises is really to be a force for good,†Anat Oved from Beverly Hills, an independent distributor for the company, says. She explains, “It’s not just that we are feeding children, we are also educating them – empowering them to break the cycle of hunger.â€

Perhaps the most groundbreaking aspect of their program is that the food is distributed in schools. Studies have shown that attendance at schools is much higher when meals are provided. The children get the nutrition they need while taking in the knowledge that will allow them to “break the cycle.â€

Through Build a Village, Nu Skin Enterprises also sponsors an entire village, complete with schools and a local plant where VitaMeal can be manufactured on-site, providing new jobs and valuable training for adults by educating them about irrigation, sustainable farming, forest conservation, and other subjects that can empower them to end the cycle of hunger and dependence.
