HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has hired Joey A. Kragelund, AIA, as associate vice president and principal of Healthcare Design in the Los Angeles office. He will focus on client relations and new business development for HGA’s growing Healthcare Practice Group.
“Joey has extensive experience in managing healthcare projects for a variety of clients in southern California,†said Michael Ross, FAIA, vice president of HGA in Los Angeles.
Kragelund has more than 20 years architectural experience focusing on healthcare design, with added expertise in civic, federal, science/technology, and K-12 work.
He currently is working on the Healthcare and Housing Facility for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which is a Design Build project upgrading healthcare facilities for state prisoners in Stockton, California.
Before joining HGA, he was a principal with HMC Architects in Los Angeles since 2003. His healthcare work included campus planning and programming, renovations, additions, and new construction on a variety of project scales for Martin Luther King, Jr. Medical Center, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, among other leading healthcare providers.
Kragelund was raised in Nebraska, where he developed an interest in design and drawing in high school. Since his first professional position with HDR Architecture in Omaha, he has continued to find inspiration in researching solutions to complex building projects.
“I like the variety of design challenges and collaborative team process to develop creative solutions in the owner’s best interest,†Kragelund said.
Kragelund has a degree in Architectural Technologies from the Phoenix Institute of Technology in Arizona. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and a past board member of the AIA-Pasadena Foothill Chapter. He is a licensed architect in the State of California.
