Officers Fired “Less Lethal” Rounds After Pursuing Suspect on Multiple Roadways
California Highway Patrol officers dragged a motorist from a vehicle early Friday after a high-speed pursuit wound through several Los Angeles freeways and ended on a city sidewalk.
The chase began shortly after 5:15 a.m., when officers tried to stop the driver for making an illegal U-turn, CHP officials said. The motorist refused to pull over, heading north on the 101 Freeway toward Ventura County before turning back into the San Fernando Valley.
From there, the suspect moved onto the southbound 405 and later the 10 Freeway, weaving through rush-hour traffic before exiting at La Cienega Boulevard just before 6 a.m. The car came to rest on a sidewalk, but the driver stayed inside despite being surrounded by patrol units.
CHP officers fired non-lethal rounds into the rear window before advancing with a shield and forcing the suspect out of the car. The driver, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody at the scene.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
