Officers on Foot and Horseback Provide Extra Security for the Jewish Community
The Los Angeles Police Department increased patrols in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood on Monday, marking the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas.
Officers began patrolling the area, known for its large Jewish community, at 10:30 a.m. on foot and horseback in large numbers to ensure the safety of the residents and put any tensions at ease.
“It’s a solemn day for our Jewish community on Oct. 7,” said LAPD West Bureau Cmdr. Steve Lurie. “We’re deploying three phases of extra patrol to reassure the community.”
Although there were no known or reported threats targeting the city’s Jewish population, Lurie emphasized that with many gathering at temples and community centers to commemorate the attacks, the increased presence was a precautionary measure. The LAPD stressed that anyone who sees anything suspicious should “say something” and report suspicious activity to the LAPD.
