A man who allegedly posed as a Realtor to steal jewelry from open houses in the West Los Angeles and Lost Hills areas remained jailed today on more than $2 million bail while awaiting a court appearance next month.
Tony Chung, 29, is charged with seven counts of first-degree burglary with a person present and two counts each of first-degree residential robbery and first-degree residential burglary, according to the criminal complaint.
Chung allegedly stole high-end jewelry from several open houses between July and October while pretending to be a Realtor, according to Deputy District Attorney Christine Von Helmolt.
In one instance, a licensed Realtor chased and confronted Chung after an alleged open house robbery attempt, according to the prosecutor.
Chung was arrested Oct. 27 by Los Angeles police, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Inmate Information Center website.
He is due back in court Dec. 3, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine whether there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
If convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 47 years in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
