Her mantle is already filled with awards from films such as Sense and Sensibility, Titanic, Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, and the Oscar for Best Actress in The Reader, but Kate Winslet will receive a new honor later this month: a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved March 4 the insertion of a star for Winslet in front of the W Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. A dedication ceremony will be held Monday, March 17 at 11:30 a.m. to debut the star.
Actress Kathy Bates and director James Cameron were announced as guest speakers; Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Leron Gubler will serve as the event’s emcee.
According to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Winslet’s star will be in the second row of names, which is closer to the street than to the W Hotel. Adam Sandler and Thalia will bracket Winslet’s star; Ogden Nash and Peggy Knudsen are adjacent to Winslet in the first row of stars closest to the W Hotel.
Winslet, who shot to stardom after starring in James Cameron’s Titanic, was first considered for a star on the Walk of Fame in 2011, when the selection committee of the iconic Hollywood sidewalk considered her alongside actors Jennifer Aniston, Vin Diesel, Scarlett Johansson, Malcolm McDowell, and Adam West.
Born in England, Winslet first appeared on television at the age of 13 before crossing over into cinema at 17 with a starring role in Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures. She also starred in Revolutionary Road, which reteamed her with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio and earned her a Golden Globe award for Best Actress.
Other films Winslet starred in included Quills, Finding Neverland, Little Children, and Labor Day.
The actress is also starring in three films slated to release this year, including A Little Chaos, Divergent, and The Dressmaker.
City Hall states the address of the star will officially be 6262 Hollywood Boulevard.
The council’s vote was 13-0; Councilmen Gilbert Cedillo and Mitch Englander were not present at the March 4 meeting.
