The Los Angeles Police Commission closed its meeting to the public today when protesters refused to stop chanting the names of people killed or beaten by police officers.
The activists — who were booted from the meeting — joined dozens of others outside Los Angeles Police Department headquarters.
They demanded the firing of police Chief Charlie Beck, then marched from the police headquarters to City Hall, which is across the street.
The Police Commission’s agenda today had included the donation of billboard space to advertise a smartphone app that allows people to report possible terrorism activity. When the panel cut short its public discussions, it went into closed session to discuss a police use-of-force case.
The commission later returned to its open session agenda with the board room cleared of members of the public, except for the media.
