Lane Access Restricted on Wilshire Boulevard as Construction Continues for Metro’s Two Projects in Westwood Area

The Purple Line extension will feature two new stations in Westwood: one at Wilshire Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard and the other at the West LA Veterans Affairs Medical Center

Lane access on Wilshire Boulevard between Westwood Boulevard and Gayley Avenue will be limited from Monday to Friday as construction continues for the Los Angeles Metro’s two projects in the Westwood area.

The Los Angeles Metro’s Purple (D-Line) Extension Transit Project is set to bring new transportation options to the Westwood area. The project will extend the existing Purple Line subway from its current terminus in Koreatown to Westwood, connecting Westwood to downtown LA and the San Fernando Valley.

The Purple Line extension will feature two new stations in Westwood: one at Wilshire Boulevard and Westwood Boulevard and the other at the West LA Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The stations will serve UCLA’s campus, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods, providing a faster and more efficient mode of transportation for commuters and visitors alike.

As reported by the Daily Bruin, to complete construction of the Westwood/UCLA station, Metro will inspect and service a conduit and duct bank on Wilshire Boulevard westbound between Westwood Boulevard and Gayley Avenue, which will restrict westbound Wilshire to three lanes. The left-turn pockets at the intersections of Westwood and Gayley on Wilshire westbound will also be closed. Additional restrictions may be put into effect between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. as needed, according to Metro.

Parking restrictions will be implemented based on the immediate area of construction. However, unrestricted access will be provided to driveways, residences, and businesses, unless notified otherwise. Emergency responder access will be maintained throughout the construction zones, and access for pedestrians will be maintained outside of the construction zone.

In addition, the ongoing construction of dewatering well risers and laterals to support the Purple (D-Line) Extension Transit Project will restrict traffic and street parking until Friday. The traffic restrictions include eastbound lanes on Wilshire Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Gayley Avenue, southbound lanes on Gayley Avenue between Kinross Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard, and the closure of the west crosswalk on Wilshire and Gayley. Northbound lanes on Midvale and Gayley avenues will remain open.
