Los Angeles police will crack down on traffic-law violators Friday in an effort to make some crash-fraught intersections safer.
“One of the primary duties of the Los Angeles Police Department is to facilitate the safe and expeditious movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic,” LAPD Lt. Dave Ferry said in a statement.
“To enforce compliance with traffic laws and to develop driver awareness of the causes of traffic collisions, the LAPD appropriately warns, cites or arrests traffic law violators,” Ferry said.
On Friday, the LAPD will conduct a Directed Enforcement Task Force operation at various intersections in the city’s South Bureau, Ferry said.
“The goal of the DETF is to reduce the number of traffic collisions at specific intersections that have the highest incident of fatalities, severe or visible injuries through education and enforcement,” Ferry said.
The DETF is a data-driven effort “that brings a laser focus to locations and causes of crashes, preventable through education, enforcement, and engineering,” Ferry said.
The following intersections will be the main focus of Friday’s enforcement operation:
— Vermont Avenue at Martin Luther King Boulevard;
— Hoover Street at 43rd Street;
— La Cienega Boulevard at Rodeo Road;
— Broadway at Manchester Avenue; and
— Adams Boulevard at La Brea Avenue.
Some other intersections also will receive extra patrols. The DETF is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
