Law Firm Appoints Carmen Cole First Female, African American Managing Partner

The law firm of Littleton, Joyce, Ughetta, Park, and Kelly announced April 21 Carmen J. Cole was appointed to serve as the managing partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office. Previously a practicing attorney with McGuire Woods’ Atlanta and Los Angeles offices, Cole is reportedly the first woman and first African American selected as a managing partner at Littleton Joyce.

“This is an honor, it’s exciting for me,” Cole stated. “A lot of firms talk about diversity, but there’s a fundamental difference between simply talking about something and demonstrating real commitment. From the top down, Littleton Joyce is a firm that reflects the diversity of our communities and clients.”

Cole reportedly graduated from Malibu’s Pepperdine University School of Law in 2001 and also leads the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group; she earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton.

According to the firm, Cole’s practice focuses on “the defense of employment discrimination claims, including wrongful termination, non-competition agreements, misappropriation cases, and other employment related torts.”

Littleton Joyce stated diversity is one of its top priorities, heavily focusing “on the recruitment, retention and advancement of highly skilled attorneys and staff from diverse backgrounds” in making its hiring decisions. The firm stated 20 percent of its partners and 53 percent of its associates and special counsel are comprised of minority attorneys. Women reportedly make up 27 percent of the firm’s partnership and 53 percent of its associates and special counsel.

Cole will be managing the Little Joyce office in Downtown Los Angeles. The firm lists 29 attorneys on its website who work at its five offices, including two in New York State, one in New Jersey, and another in Philadephia, Penn.

Visit the firm’s website for more information.
