Learn More About Sweet-Tart Specialists Coming to Sawtelle

Supita opening at 2010 Sawtelle

By Dolores Quintana

Supita, the sweet-tart specialist coming to Sawtelle Japantown has revealed more about what they will be bringing to the Westside at 2010 Sawtelle.

During a phone interview, Claire Lam, spokesperson for Supita, said, “We are actually a mother company called Sweet Distribution and Management Incorporated (SDMN), which manages all of these brands. We mainly bring over brands from Hong Kong and China. Supita isn’t established in Hong Kong, it is the sister company of Simply Splendid Bakery that is located in Alhambra here in Los Angeles.”

When asked about what patrons can expect from Supita, Lam said that the restaurant will specialize in tarts, but will have other kinds of pastry and cake. Supita will also carry drinks that are popular in Hong Kong. They will have tarts and beverages that are specialties of the Hong Kong market and ones that are similar to the items on the mother bakery’s menu Simply Splendid Bakery. Lam mentioned Hong Kong-style milk tea and lemon tea. Another item listed on the Simply Splendid Bakery menu is Yuanyang Tea, which is a mixture of tea and coffee for a super caffeinated drink so perhaps that will be on the menu as well.

Lam specifically mentioned that Supita would have Hong Kong egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts on the menu. A look at the Simply Splendid menu shows an exciting and long list of cakes, which include chocolate, vanilla cream, hazelnut chocolate crispy, red bean, green tea red bean, chestnut, coffee, mango, peach, strawberry and durian cakes. Lam said that they are always trying new and different types of tarts and cakes, so it is likely that they will be doing seasonal specials as well.

According to Lam, they are in the last stages of renovating the restaurant and are waiting for final permit approvals from the city. They would like to open in early September, but because of the process involved and delays built in because of the ongoing pandemic, Lam said that while they hope for early September, they said that it could be later in the month, but that an opening in September was their goal. Supita sounds like a very exciting addition to Sawtelle and a new full-service bakery that will bring the Hong Kong style to the Westside.
