The Los Angeles auto show has gone quite a bit greener this year and alternative vehicles are taking center stage for 2012.
Alternative vehicles are touted as more fuel efficient and less polluting than gasoline and diesel burning vehicles. The cleanest internal combustion engine of all goes to the Honda Civic natural gas burning engine that gets over 40 miles per gallon. It received the 2012 Green car of the year at the L .A. auto show and won out over the Toyota Prius and even the Ford Focus electric. Just about every auto manufacturer is exploring green technology in various forms.
Rolls Royce unveiled a prototype all electric model called 102EX.
The new Volkswagen Passat TDI clean diesel was named Motor Trend’s car of the year for 2012 with up to a 43 miles per gallon rating and the V.W. Beetle has been completely revamped for 2012 with a new shaped body and more powerful motor.
On the muscle car side of technology the 2013 Shelby GT 500 steals the show with 650 horsepower and 600 pound feet of torque overpowering the ZL-1 Chevy Camero with it’s 580 horsepower and 556 pound feet of torque.
The Ford Mustang has been remodeled for 2012 with it’s own brand of classic styling and the 2012 Dodge Charger has a real classic look that will last for years to come.
Nissan is making food trucks that are smaller and easier to park.
Cars are getting smarter and smarter and some future models from makers like V.W. can even parallel park themselves as well as stop themselves sensing if a driver is too close to another vehicle. It has been predicted that in as little as 5 years from now cars will be able to even drive themselves.
Technology is making cars safer, cleaner and better performing than ever before and it shows in so many ways.
