Los Angeles firefighters, along with a city Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team and Park Rangers, joined tonight to rescue a horse that fell into a 75-foot ravine in the Hollywood Hills, a fire department spokesman said.
The horse was hoisted to safety around 9:45 p.m., according to emergency radio transmissions from the scene.
The action began just after 6:30 p.m. near 3400 N. Beachwood Dr., fire department spokesman Erik Scott said.
“It began with a 911 call from Park Rangers who reports that a horse had fallen and was in need of our help,” Scott said.
The horse was kept at the Hollywood stables. It was on a narrow trail and possibly lost footing and fell about 60 feet down a ravine, Scott said.
Firefighters and Urban Search and Rescue teams set up a rope system to lower firefighters down the ravine to “assess and calm the horse.” Firefighters determined the horse was not severely injured.
