The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose two-tenths of a cent today for the second consecutive day, settling at $4.305, according to the Automotive Club of America (AAA).

The average price is two-tenths of a cent more than a week ago, 25.5 cents more than a week ago and 37.3 cents above what it was one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.

“Gas prices remain at very high levels at least partly due to the increased cost of ethanol and extended refinery maintenance,” said Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. “It’s hard to say when significant relief will arrive because wholesale prices continue at high enough levels to keep pump prices well above $4 a gallon.”

According to www.GasBuddy.com, the lowest price for regular gasoline in Santa Monica is $4.29 per gallon at USA Gasoline (Lincoln Boulevard at Ocean Park Boulevard).

A gallon of regular gasoline at the 76 station at Wilshire Boulevard and 26th Street was $4.99, according to the same website.

On the higher end, a 76 station at Crescent Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard in Beverly Hills offers premium gasoline at $5.55 per gallon. A gallon of regular gasoline at the same station is $4.95.

The website updates its gasoline prices every 36 hours; data is based upon drivers who supply the price per gallon of gasoline at the gas stations they visit.

The Orange County average price rose a half-cent today to $4.303, its highest amount since March 1, 2013.

The Orange County average price is nine-tenths of a cent more than one week ago, 26.8 cents higher than last month, and 41 cents above what it was a year ago.
