KCAL9, NBC4 and KTLA won the big awards for the best Los Angeles newscasts at the 65th annual Golden Mike Awards Saturday night.

Radio awards went to KFI, KNX, KCLU and KCSN.

“Noticero Univision” news anchor Maria Elena Salinas was feted at tonight’s gala Universal City dinner, and named a “News Legend Award” recipient by the Radio-Television News Association of Southern California.

Bob Miller, the 42-year announcer for the Los Angeles Kings, received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Veteran Associated Press reporter Linda Deutsch, who retired after 40 years on the courts beat in Los Angeles, won the RTNA Freedom of Information Award for her decades of efforts to get cameras and microphones into California courthouses.

KNBC won the Golden Mike this year for best 30-Minute Newscast, and also topped all stations as it garnered a total of nine awards in the various journalism and technical categories.

KCAL, one of the two CBS Los Angeles TV stations, won the best 60-Minute night-time newscast in the L.A. market. KBAK-TV in Bakersfield won the same prize for smaller markets.

KTLA won the Golden Mike for the best daytime 60-Minute newscast.

On the radio side, two legacy AM radio stations with three call letters and 50,000-watt signals each won the big station category prizes. KFI was selected for the Best Newscast Under 15 Minutes, and KNX won for the Best Newscast Over 15 Minutes.

In the small station category, KCSN at Cal State University Northridge won in the Best Newscast Over 15 Minutes. KCLU in Thousand Oaks/Santa Barbara/Santa Maria won the Golden Mike for Best Newscast Under 15 Minutes.

The RTNA is a nonprofit trade association, made up of working professional journalists, that fights for the rights of reporters and photographers. It also sets up pool coverage of major events, and raises scholarship funds for students.
