NORTON WISDOM is an artist who spontaneously captures and paints images inspired by live music, using his fingers, metal scrapers, brushes, rags and spray bottles. The evolving pictures become short stories with human elements instantly meaningful to the audience. Wisdom’s performances bring into question the distinction of music and painting, causing one to wonder where the painting stops and the music begins. The exact relationship of one to the other cannot always be determined, but there is an entrancing effect of the combination on the performers and the audience.
Collaborating musicians range in style from Classical and Country to Rock, including Nels Cline, Willie Waldman, Flea (Chili Peppers), Ray White (Frank Zappa), Marc Ford (Black Crowes), the National Bamboo Orchestra of Bali, Aneliqu Kidgo & Zola South Africa Rock, Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones) and Darrel Jones (Rolling Stones).
Wisdom’s previous performance venues range from museums, festivals and premieres to auditoriums, including the New York City Winter Jazz Fest, the Monterey Jazz Fest, Lincoln Center United Nations, the Winter Olympics, the Bellagio Hotel Las Vegas Opening, the Cirque Du Soleil Las Vegas Premiere and UCLA Royce Hall.
