Major Construction Continues in Century City for Purple Line Extension

Station Construction and Utility Relocation to Take Place in August 2024

Construction activities in Century City will continue throughout August 2024 as part of the Purple Line Extension, with necessary permits and approvals in place. Here’s a summary of the planned work:

Structural concrete placement for the Constellation Station continues underground beneath Constellation Boulevard, expected to be completed by September 2024. The construction operates 24 hours a day, Monday through Saturday. Crews will focus on completing the second level of exterior walls and the roof structure in August. Partial lane closures are in effect on Constellation Boulevard to facilitate material delivery. Both eastbound and westbound vehicle access between Century Park West and Century Park East is maintained, with all driveways remaining accessible, including the Fairmont Century Plaza event driveway and the Century Park valet.

Storm Drain Lateral Construction South of Constellation

Traffic control measures have been adjusted to support utility relocation on Avenue of the Stars, south of Constellation Boulevard. Lane reductions will persist until November 2024, with northbound Avenue of the Stars reduced to one lane and two lanes southbound. Northbound left turns onto westbound Constellation Boulevard are restricted, while U-turns south of Constellation Boulevard are reopened. Pedestrian access is maintained outside construction zones.

Preparations have begun for constructing appendages along the future station, including installing piles to support excavation. This work occurs within existing traffic closures around the station area, with additional traffic control to be implemented later.

Tunneling for the Purple Line D project has been completed. Construction continues within the sound walls at staging yards located at 1940, 1950, 2010, and 2040 Century Park East during the day and on weekend nights.

The JMB Project construction at the northeast corner of Constellation and Avenue of the Stars is adjacent to the Metro D Line Subway construction. For details on the JMB project, contact Bonnie Christopher at 310-843-4022 (direct) or 310-551-007 (office).
