Malibu Guitar Festival Launches Festival Weekend With Opening Night Fundraiser on May 18

Legendary Grammy nominated singer-songwriter John Hiatt is slated to perform, along with the Kenneth Brian Band playing with longtime      

Heartbreaker’s drummer Steve Ferrone. Oscar-nominated composerMarco Beltrami will perform with a 15 piece ensemble for music specially composed for this evening. Robbie Krieger, country superstar Hunter Hayes, Laurence Juber (Wings), Rolling Stones alumni Waddy Wachteland Bernard Fowler also to perform.

Along with the evening’s performances, the Malibu Guitar Festivalwill present Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the Chief of All Stars Nations and

Keeper of the Sacred Bundle for the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota Nations, with an Honorary Humanitarian Award in recognition of his good works.

Additionally, in celebration of The Doors 50th Anniversary, Malibu Guitar Festival will present a Lifetime Achievement Award to iconic-rock guitar hero Robby Krieger.

The festival’s opening night fundraiser is supporting the following charities this year: TheraSurf, Emily Shane Foundation, and The Karl LaDue Wodakota Foundation. An auction will also take place offering luxury and high end items to raise additional funds for the charity recipients.

TheraSurf’s goal is to provide children with special needs the opportunity to benefit from that positive energy of the ocean by safely getting them into the water and up on waves. They help children and their families access the stoke of surf culture, and aspire to create a can-do environment in a world full of limitations.

The Emily Shane Foundation provides individualized intensive mentoring to struggling/ failing middle school students in the mainstream classroom.

The Karl LaDue Wodakota Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to the education of native youth with knowledge and skills that enable them to embrace their traditional heritage and culture. – and tonight we’ll be honoring Chief Arvol Looking Horse, who led the fight against the North Dakota pipeline.
