A man accused of stabbing a nurse at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center on Easter Sunday pleaded not guilty today to attempted murder and other charges.
Ramiro Carnalla, 26, is charged with one felony count each of attempted murder and resisting an executive officer, along with one misdemeanor count each of assault and battery.
The criminal complaint includes allegations that Carnalla used a knife and inflicted great bodily injury, and that he was convicted in 2012 of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.
He allegedly called 911 on his cell phone from outside the medical center and claimed to have a weapon. When police arrived, Carnalla allegedly went inside the hospital and stabbed the nurse several times.
Carnalla has remained jailed since his arrest that day. He is due back in a San Fernando courtroom on June 23, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to require him to stand trial.
