Meet Century City: Mark Cerezin

Fascinated as a kid with photography and growing up during the birth of extreme sports, it’s no wonder Mark Cerezin became fascinated with imaging and X-rays in his later years. Cerezin works for the 20-year-old United Medical Imaging HealthCare, located at 2080 Century Park East, Suite 104, in Century City. When he’s not focused on improving provider relations with patients at work, you’ll see him kayaking, swimming, skiing, or camping.

Oh, and if you ever find yourself outside of Century City and in need of diagnostic imaging, United Medical Imaging has 17 other locations with more than 300 employees.

Tell me a little about what you do in Century City?

I work for United Medical Imaging HealthCare. We provide imaging services ranging from MRI’s, CT’s, UltraSound, Digital X-Ray, Mammography, and Dexa Scans. Providers Relations is about each day raising the bar of patient care and interacting with referring facilities. I am very fortunate to work for a locally owned family business focused on that philosophy, while using the most diagnostic technology. Having a warm welcoming staff, great technicians, that put you at ease, and an on-site Radiologist, makes a possibly anxious time more accommodating. Honestly, who likes going for tests? I meet with doctors, lawyers, and their staff and develop long-lasting relationships with anyone who may be in need of Imaging Services. We discuss issues with insurance, advancement in technologies, reports, and Personal Injury and Workers Comp related issues. Ultimately, it is to provide the best level of service and experience for the patient. Also, I am the co-chair for the Century City Chamber of Commerce, Health and Wellness Council. We have a Harvest Health Festival, Wednesday Oct. 28, from 11 am to 3 pm. We hope everyone will stop by.

What motivated you to get into the role?

I have always loved imaging – from an early age, photography was it for me. Looking through the lens whether it be at abstracts, the S Pattern imprinted in fresh powder after a perfect ski run, the image of a blue-green wave at it’s apex as the sun shines through it, or what’s more fascinating than seeing the human form from within. Physics is also a fascination of mine. That why I pursued a certification to perform MRI’s and X-Ray’s. Although, I do not perform scans anymore, I enjoy the Laws of Magnetism, Physics, and their applications.

Where did it all begin for you career-wise?

I attended a high school that had many teams that were very accomplished and very competitive. In the early eighties alternative sports skateboarding, BMX bikes, and snowboarding took off. Everybody was breaking bones. I guess as a badge of honor of being bored teenagers, students would bring in the X-rays of their injuries to lunch break and all the athletes would look at them. Being heavily involved with a number of sports, I was impacted seeing the different types of injuries. When one of my friends attempted a backflip on skis and broke his neck and nearly died, he showed me the images. He never brought those to school – he had to wear a Halo for a year but completely recovered.

What do you love about Century City? Where is your favorite place to eat/exercise/take a break from the office in the area?

How can you not love Century City? You can come to work, then have diverse choices for lunch, workout at top-notch gyms, attend great happy hours, have a full spectrum of food choices for dinner, or go see a movie. Everything is here! The shopping is amazing and all within walking distance, parking is easy, and it is very clean with a friendly ambience. Century City has amazing spots to entertain and great hotels. Last weekend my wife, our friends, and I attended one of Century City’s many fine restaurants. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Obika Mozzarella bar. For lunch I like to go the food court for it’s wide variety choices.

If you could add one thing to the area what would it be and why?

Make it easier to go from building to building with bridges, moving walkways, trolley cars, electric shuttles – whatever it takes. The recent addition of the Sculpture Exhibit around Century City is amazing. I love to look at it driving home after a long day of work. More, please!

What do you do in your spare time?

If I am not with my beautiful wife, there are only a few places to find me on the weekend: at the ocean kayaking, swimming, skiing in one our beautiful mountains (preferably Squaw Valley), or camping hopefully next to a hot spring.

What is one cool thing that you want to do this year?

I want to purchase a boat that requires a certain level of restoration. It just has to float, and I will fix the rest. After owning a boat for many years and then not having one for over ten years, it is time to feel the highs and lows of boat ownership, once again.

Where was your last vacation?

My wife and I went North Carolina to the Outer Banks to visit my family and friends. The beaches are very different with high sand dunes and long rolling waves. What a beautiful country we have.

Where do you wish your last vacation were?

Bora Bora, in a hut with clear glass bottom floor, in the ocean.
