Metro to Provide Limited Service Due to Repairs on the Tracks

Metro will provide limited service on the Blue and Expo lines during Thursday morning’s peak hours as crews repair damage caused by a fire at the 7th Street/Metro Station.

Ten buses have been brought in to shuttle passengers along Flower Street between the 7th Street/Metro Station and the Pico Station, said Jose Ubaldo of Metro. Rail passengers may enter the shuttle buses on Flower Street next to the 7th Street/Metro Station, Ubaldo said.

Metro crews are working to repair the damages caused by the fire but they don’t expect to finish before the peak hours are over, Ubaldo said.

Firefighters were called to the station at 899 W. Seventh St., near Figueroa Street, at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday and quickly put out the fire, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Nine people, mainly Metro employees, were treated for smog inhalation, with one taken to a hospital, Ubaldo said.

People who had been in the station had self-evacuated by the time firefighters arrived, according to Humphrey, who said fire alarms sounded.

The fire involved two electrical transformers, Humphrey said.
