The New York based Deutsch has been heralded by conductors and critics alike and will be featured in Mendelssohn’s popular Violin Concerto in E minor along with music from Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess.â€
The concert will open with Copland’s “Three Latin American Sketches,†a work from 1959 which the composer revised in 1972. Always a lover of the music of Latin America, Copland’s ballet scores for “Billy the Kid†and “Rodeo†have a distinctly Latin flavor. Referring to the “Three Sketches,†Copland wrote, “the tunes, the rhythms, and the temperament of the pieces are folksy, while the orchestration is bright and snappy and the music sizzles along – or at least it seems to me that it does.â€
Mozart’s valedictory Symphony No. 41, the “Jupiter,†will round out the program.
