O Sole L.A.: An Artful Benefit to Enable Inner City Kids to Swim.

Hamilton Galleries presents an evening of art, food, fun, wine and jazz from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at the Sixth Annual Hamilton Galleries/Rob LeMond Swim Scholarship Benefit for inner city kids to attend Summer Surf Camp in Malibu.

Hamilton Galleries will once again partner with Rob LeMond, a long-time ocean swimming and surf instructor, and the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) to introduce low income children to the ocean experience and its many healthful benefits.

A former Junior Olympic swimmer, Hamilton knows what a life-enhancing experience swimming and ocean sports can be. “Ocean sports, and the joy that comes from them, are something you can do for the rest of your life,†she says.
Hamilton also understands how mastering ocean sports builds confidence and helps children overcome fears.

Children enro lled in the Summer Surf Camp in Malibu get the opportunity to learn and interact with kids from other areas and income levels in Southern California. In this way they learn to master not only fears of failing but social fears as well, vital skills for success and achievement in high school, college and beyond.

Monique Gutierrez, a former scholarship recipient, said of the experience, “We never knew we could swim so far, fly so high or feel so amazing.†As well, the camp impacts students by teaching about the ecology of the ocean and ocean safety. Jesus Torres, the first recipient of the Surf/Swim Scholarship, has since attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, to study marine biology.

“O Solé L.A.†is a group exhibit by an eclectic group of artists represented by the Hamilton Galleries, including Warren Long, Brooke Adams, Marg aret von Biesen, Eva Armisen, Esau Andrade, Robert Toll, Karin Swildens and Gene Siegrist. The paintings, sculpture and mixed media exude L.A.’s unique and free-flowing energy and style that seem to radiate from the sun. The artists are united through their expressionistic, exuberant dedication to the force of color, light, movement and form.

The evening’s music will be provided by saxophonist Laurel Partin and friends, and food will be provided by Ma’Kai of Santa Monica.

Tickets to the Saturday evening Artists’ Reception and Rob LeMond Surf/Swim Scholarship Benefit are $30 per person, and kids are free. 20% of all proceeds from art sales will benefit the Scholarship.

The Hamilton Galleries are located at 1431 Ocean Avenue (between Broadway and Santa Monica Boulevard), across from Palisades Park and above the Pacific Ocean.
