OpenTaste is taking back the way we buy and sell food from corporations and grocery stores and giving it to the people. The thing is, OpenTaste brings organic, local, and world’s best food right to you by cutting out the middleman – it’s like a farmer’s market at your door each time.

We’re a society of online shoppers and e-commerce tastes. Image ordering food online and the items are harvested or made just for you. Imagine a hand-selected, hand-packed, and hand-delivered groceries delivered to your door, for free and same day.

Think Yummy.com or Amazon Fresh, except farm fresh organic, sustainable, and affordable. Oh, and it’s available 24-hours a day.

“Everyone deserves to enjoy fresh and healthy food without having to spend big dollars,” Kenneth Wu, CEO of OpenTaste said. “We have been receiving overwhelming positive responses from people on their experiences during our initial launch in Pasadena. We are excited to be able to bring this experience to all residents in Los Angeles.”

OpenTaste is an online marketplace that connects consumers directly to local farms, private growers and some of the best-known food makers with facilities in Downtown L.A. All qualifying vendors go through a rigorous selection process to be able to sell on OpenTaste. Vendors’ proximity to Los Angeles enables produce to be hand-picked fresh from the farms when orders are placed online by customers. This means the produce is never frozen or stored in the stockroom or on the shelves.

OpenTaste started bringing fresh produce and making free 24-hour delivery to Pasadena and nearby residents in April. OpenTaste has more than a thousand customers in and around Pasadena, with an expanding customer-base throughout Los Angeles.

But another selling point is the “green” aspect to ordering food rather than driving out. New research shows it’s not only convenient, but much more environmentally friendly to leave the car parked and opt for groceries delivered to your doorstep; potentially 80 to 90 percent less carbon dioxide emitted.

Home delivery over $35 is free, but orders below that have just a $4.95 deliver fee. Plus, you can get in the habit of eating better by getting orders delivered daily or weekly. You’ll get to know your own Emissary (deliverer) when he or she packs the order and delivers to your door.
Subscriptions are easy and convenient and save you money, too (3 percent store credit, that is).

To make things easier for your first few orders, there are 3 ways to return the bags. First, you can hand the bags back to the Emissary upon delivery after emptying bag. Second, you can hand back to emissary on your next delivery. Or third you can drop off at our warehouse located at 938 Hemlock St., Los Angeles, CA 90021 between 08 am to 12:30 pm, Monday to Saturday.

Lastly, you can take an active role in sustainability by listing your own goods and foods on OpenTaste. They’re currently building websites and apps to help you sell direct without any administrative hassle, offer really convenient distribution options, and find new great customers who love your food.
