Because of community concerns raised about the Protected Ridgeline ordinance, Councilmember Koretz’s staff has requested the Department of City Planning to delay scheduling the item for consideration by the City Planning Commission until after a revised Draft Ordinance, which takes into account these concerns, has been completed to the Councilmember’s and the community’s satisfaction.
The Ordinance, which is being designed to enhance hillside communities, is only in the first stage of the legislative process. All interested constituents are encouraged to continue to email both CD5 Senior Planner Daniel Skolnick at daniel.skolnick@lacity.org and the Planning Department at planning.ridgelines@lacity.org with any questions or recommendations. Community comments will continue to be added to the official case file (Case No. CPC-2021-3001-CA) for consideration by the Planning staff, the Commission, and the City Council. Again, please be assured that the process will not be moving forward until the revisions are in place.
In addition, our office is organizing an advisory committee of hillside design professionals to work together on revisions to the Draft Ridgeline Protection Ordinance. If you are a licensed architect or engineer with hillside development experience, please consider joining this new hillside advisory committee that is tentatively scheduled to begin meeting in mid-August on a bi-weekly basis.
Together we can conserve the natural beauty of our remaining ridgelines, and strike a balance in both the built and natural environment.
