A fire sparked by an electrical problem damaged a pet store in unincorporated Lennox Tuesday and left about three dozen pets dead, including birds, reptiles and a cat, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 2:31 a.m. in the 4400 block of Lennox Boulevard, and firefighters knocked down the blaze in about 30 minutes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. No people were hurt in the fire.
About 250 pets were evacuated from the building, but 35 of them died, said county fire Inspector Joey Marron. Animal control officers and the pet store owner were on the scene to assist. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
