Police Update

I want to thank everyone for their efforts in reporting suspicious activity to me and to the various neighborhood websites when people see things that just don’t feel right. The license plate information, descriptions, photos, etc. keep our detectives busy! It’s wonderful to see the community working together to ensure that the area forever stays as nice as it is today.

I would, however, like to remind everyone that if there’s something that looks suspicious, or if you see the beginnings of a possible crime in progress (i.e. someone looking into cars or pulling on door handles) please call the police first and foremost!

Then, afterwards, network with your neighbors, websites and me (I’m certainly not here 24/7!). And while I always appreciate the information, it’s no substitute for calling for immediate service when appropriate (911 for emergency or crime in progress, 1-877-ask-lapd for non-emergency dispatch).

There have been a couple of incidents of activities occurring that probably should have been checked out immediately by police rather than posting it to various sites or e-mail trees. This is just something to keep in mind. Please know that your enthusiasm and civic participation is greatly appreciated by all of us here at the LAPD.

Note: Efforts are being made to ensure the safety of our children at the various bus stops and school crossings. Just a reminder to everyone: red lights flashing at the rear of school buses mandate drivers to STOP completely. It does not mean proceed with caution. It does not mean you can proceed if you don’t see any children. It does not mean anything except STOP for the entire duration that the red lights are flashing. No exceptions. Everyone is in a hurry and everyone is running late. But there couldn’t possibly be anything worse than having to live with the guilt of injuring or killing an innocent child coming or going from school. Citations will be given on a zero tolerance basis. Please pass the word! Thank you!
