UPDATE (June 6, 12:07 a.m.) – About 1,100 Dept. of Water Power customers in Westwood, Holmby Hills and Bel Air remain without power tonight because of a problem at a distribution center, a utility official said.

The outage, which knocked out power to about 4,500 mostly residential customers north and south of Sunset Boulevard and east of the San Diego (405) Freeway, was reported around 8 p.m., the DWP’s Jane Galbraith said.

The outage was caused by a problem at a distribution station. Workers were attempting to isolate the line and bring five failed circuits back online, but it was unclear if the problem would recur, Galbraith said.

“We still have about 1,100 customers without power as of 11:15 p.m.,” the DWP’s Terry Schneider told the press. “We estimate that it may take as long as 10 hours from the time of the outage to get everyone back on line but it might be sooner.”
