Team Earned Their Second NCAA Championship in December 2022
Representative Ted Lieu visited the UCLA Women’s Soccer team at UCLA last night to personally congratulate them on their title win. He said, as quoted on his Facebook page, “Thrilled to visit UCLA Women’s Soccer players and coaches last night to congratulate them for their amazing 2022 national championship win! This fantastic team truly makes our community proud.”
The team earned their second NCAA national championship in program history after defeating North Carolina 3-2 in a thrilling double overtime match at WakeMed Soccer Park in December of 2022.
The No. 1-seeded UCLA team made history by becoming the first team in College Cup history to come back from two goals down to win in the title game. This incredible win truly makes the community proud, and Representative Lieu was thrilled to visit the players and coaches to express his congratulations.

UCLA’s Margueritte Aozasa also made history by becoming the first coach in NCAA women’s soccer history to win a national championship in their first year as a head coach. The team’s hard work and dedication paid off in this unforgettable victory, and they have undoubtedly inspired young athletes across the nation.
As a representative for California’s 33rd congressional district, Lieu recognizes the importance of supporting local sports teams and inspiring future generations of athletes.
