Sen. Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, used a luncheon speech at the California Republican Party convention Saturday to call for restoring voting rights and cellphone privacy.
“Let’s be the party for restoring voting rights, then people will come join us,” Paul, a possible 2016 presidential candidate, said at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott.
Paul also said, “What you do and say on your cellphone is none of the government’s damn business.”
House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, criticized President Barack Obama and Gov. Jerry Brown at a dinner banquet tonight, and called for reducing federal debt and entitlement program spending.
Various regional and committee meetings and workshops were also held today.
The three-day convention will conclude Sunday with a general session when the delegates will vote on a series of resolutions after hearing from Neel Kashkari, the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
