The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI) has awarded September Hill, co-creator of the Junior League of Los Angeles’ (JLLA) Public Policy Institute, its 2011 Rising Star award for her outstanding advocacy across a broad range of issues, including women’s mental health, diversity, and education.
Ms. Hill spearheaded the campaign to encourage women to “Speak Up When You’re Down†, as well as information cards detailing signs and symptoms of post partum depression as part of a campaign to help afflicted mothers get help.
Hill’s efforts have inspired other Junior Leagues to establish their own public policy institutes and has graduated more than two dozen women, many of whom have started careers in public policy.
“She has been at the core of a number of the League’s most impactful initiatives, and in just three years of active membership has already set the bar very high,†said Delly Beekman, AJLI President.
