Senator Ben Allen chaired an oversight hearing of the Joint Committee on the Arts on Wednesday, May 24 in Sacramento. The hearing reviewed newly released economic data from the Otis Report on the Creative Economy. Additionally, the committee focused on artist live/work spaces with discussion of safety, policy considerations and building community support and connections. A policy white paper on “Affordable Artist Housing: Retaining and supporting California artists and creative workers” was presented by Teri Deaver, Vice President of Artspace.
