Seventeen people were killed statewide, three of those in Los Angeles County, this Thanksgiving holiday weekend on roads patrolled by the California Highway Patrol.
It marks a significant decrease from the 28 people killed over the same period in 2014, according to the CHP.
The CHP also reported 940 people were arrested by its officers statewide, an increase of 44 arrests statewide during the same period last year. Locally, CHP DUI arrests in L.A. County totaled 223 this Thanksgiving, an increase of 65 over last year’s total of 158 in the county.
“Drunk driving is one of the serious traffic-related issues we face today,” CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said. “If you are caught driving drunk, you will be arrested.”
The reporting period during which these deaths and arrests occurred ran from 6:01 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. today (Sunday), according to CHP officer Peter Bishop.
