Sheriff’s Department to Begin San Vicente Encampment Clean up Soon

Brentwood Community Council October, 2021 meeting recap

Submitted by the Brentwood Community Council

At the latest Brentwood Community Council meeting, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department gave an update on an upcoming cleanup of the homeless encampment alongside San Vicente Boulevard in Brentwood.

1. Encampment Update: Lt Bill Kitchin, LASD (USMC Veteran) reported the San Vicente clean up is progressing as planned through the LASD HOST process and the full clean up is set for November 1, 2021. Multiple housing and shelter options are being offered, the effort is being managed in a compassionate manner and in compliance with various court rulings.

2. Opposition to Mount St Marys: The BCC passed a Motion requesting Councilman Bonin adhere to prior development policy for the Sunset corridor in Brentwood and not approve the proposed Mt St Mary’s expansion project due to significant negative impacts to both traffic on Sunset Boulevard and safety in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.

3. No Camping Enforcement on City Property – LAMC 41.18: The BCC passed a motion in support of a new City ordinance preventing camping within 500 feet of parks, libraries, day care centers and K-12 schools or within 1,000 feet of homeless service providers and requested the City begin to enforce the ordinance in Brentwood.

4. Council File 21-0929: The BCC passed a Motion in support of a motion brought forward by the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils (WRAC), which represents 14 councils in West Los Angeles. The WRAC motion supports City Council Motion 21-0929 which would automatically mandate no camping within 500 feet of a public K-12 school.

5. LADWP CFO Ann Santilli – Ms. Santilli explained the tier rating system and time of year rate changes, as well as tier changes based on physical location in the City of Los Angeles due to average temperature. She also indicated that, in some cases, it may be worthwhile to install a separate meter for water use, especially for significant landscaping and that incentives exist for landlords to install EV chargers for renters. 6. LAPD Senior Lead Officer Matt Kirk indicated that good video camera coverage led to a recent Felony arrest and recommended that all business owners and residents seek to install cameras. Auto crime is still the most prevalent crime in Brentwood but over the last week the trend held steady. Please remember to lock all vehicles at all times, even if parked in a garage and leave nothing visible inside, which might invite someone to breaking into the vehicle. Due to time constraints, the Transportation Report was skipped at our meeting. Please note the following two bills that will not go into effect this year.
