Southwest Airlines passengers were in a long line at Los Angeles International Airport and other fields across the nation today, as a nationwide computer failure forced agents to issue handwritten tickets for all departing flights.
The airline confirmed the issue in an email response to City News Service, and asked all U.S. passengers to arrive at least two hours ahead of their scheduled departure today.
LAX police tweeted out a photo of a huge line in Terminal 1, as passengers tried to make morning flights.
By 10 a.m. Los Angeles time, about 250 Southwest flights nationwide had been delayed, a Southwest spokeswoman in Texas said to City News Service. The airline operates 3,600 flights per day.
The airline blamed the delays on “technology issues, which are requiring us to process customers on their individual itineraries.”
Southwest is one of the busiest carriers at Los Angeles, Burbank, Orange County and San Diego airports.
