The Spotted Pig Coming to Venice?

One of New York’s most popular eateries where customers rubbed elbows with the likes of Bill Clinton, Bono, Jay-Z, Kim Kardashian, and others, could be expanding into one of Los Angeles’ most gentrified enclaves. According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, The Spotted Pig is looking into opening a second restaurant in Venice.

Conjured up a decade ago by chef April Bloomfield and former Smiths manager Ken Friedman, The Spotted Pig states on its website it serves “seasonal British and Italian using local ingredients when possible.”

The original in New York’s West Village does not take advance reservations and seating is by walk-in only. During long waits, customers are encouraged to either visit the restaurant’s bar or enjoy the adjacent “lovely neighborhood that is great to walk around.”

On its lunch and dinner menus, The Spotted Pig offers dishes such as Seared Mackarel with Sweet Potato Mash and House-Cured Pancetta, Sheep’s Milk Ricotta Gnudi with Brown Butter and Crispy Sage, and Braised Monkfish with Mussels, Clams, Chorizo, and Tomato.

Meanwhile, items such as Lemon Ricotta Pancake with Candied Almonds, Sizzling Sisig with Jalapeno and Egg, and Cubano Sandwich with Watercrest Salad are among the brunch options.

Prices range from $4 for bar snack items to $35 for dinner plates.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, if The Spotted Pig does come to Venice, it would be located at 1205 Abbot Kinney Boulevard.

Westside Today will continuing looking into this story to determine if The Spotted Pig will actually come to Venice, and, if so, when it would potentially open.

Beyond The Spotted Pig, Bloomfield and Friedman also own the Breslin and the John Dory Oyster Bar in New York City, as well as the Tosca Café in San Francisco.

Bringing The Spotted Pig to Los Angeles, if true, would be the duo’s first foray into the Southern California.

More about The Spotted Pig can be found on its website.
