Committed and persuasive, Howell rallied her Hollywood industry crowd to share their extraordinary artistic talents in the performing, practical and fine arts. She believed this format would be an antidote to the depression and disquieting pain and suffering critically ill and hospitalized children endure from a host of medical maladies.
These compassionate volunteers discovered that art in all forms impacts perception. So, The Art of Elysium brings “art to kids and kids to art “ for free.. This includes 6000+ workshops in acting, comedy, fashion, music, creative writing, song writing, animated storytelling, mask making, sculpting, sand art, photography and whatever else one imagines.
Generous notables like Joaquin Phoenix, Elijah Wood, Kirsten Dunst, Patricia Arquette, Matt Boren, Steve Martin, Martin Sheen, Rhea Perleman, Emilio Estevez, Brad Garrett and art patrons Eli Broad and Gayle Roskii endorse and participate in the programs.
The Fine Art Dealers Association’s (FADA) opening night gala on January 19 kicks off The Los Angeles Art Show 2011. The installations and events will showcase an amazing collection of 100 domestic and international galleries and world class museums. More than 50,000 visitors, are anticipated to spend somewhere in the million dollar range during this spectacular celebration of the arts.
The Art of Elysium will receive the premiere party’s proceeds. The Getty Museum’s Toby Tannenbaum, Assistant Director of Education, will use funds to pay bus transportation to Title 1 schools to get children to the art, a diverse medium that gives a voice and/or a presence to one’s ideas, dreams, fears and creativity.
Show novelities and headliners include lectures, screenings, live performances, book signings, satellite programs and special exhibit spaces. China, a powerhouse of Asian Art, is touted as the show-stopper. The 53 Art Museum from Guangzhou’s supports the country’s independent artists. China’s debut is an impressive collection of never before seen pieces including some woodblocks of the cultural revolution and brightly colored political and satirical works.
Work by photojournalist Cartier-Bresson, father of modern photojournalism, and considered the master of candid photography, curated by Peter Fetterman, is a rare pleasure. Visitors are also drawn to galleries from Cuba, Latin America, Spain and other prominent European galleries.
