Continuing his focus on cleaning up one of the City’s most popular tourist destinations, Hollywood Boulevard, City Attorney Mike Feuer today announced the conviction of a man dressed as the “Joker” for disrupting business at a retail store.
“Millions of visitors come from around the world to Hollywood and my office is focused on making sure that their experience is a safe one,” said Feuer.
On August 27, 2015, at approximately 2:20 p.m., a store manager for LALA Land, a souvenir store in the Hollywood Entertainment District, observed a male dressed as the “Joker” from the “Batman” movie hiding behind a floor display. The manager watched the man jump from behind the display in an attempt to scare customers. When the manager approached the man to ask him to leave, he responded with profanities and then pushed the manager twice on the chest with both hands.
Jose Luis Garcia, 28, was convicted of one-count of intentional interference with a business establishment and sentenced to 10-days of jail; ordered not to own, use, or possess dangerous weapons or use force or violence against any person; thirty-six months of summary probation; and to stay a minimum of 100-yards away from the Hollywood Entertainment District.
Feuer’s office has prosecuted 12 individuals who, dressed as popular movie characters, have committed crimes in the Hollywood Entertainment District. This case was prosecuted by Deputy City Attorney Jackie Lawson – Hollywood Neighborhood Prosecutor.
