The Power of 10

Working at Westside Today, we frequently get offers to try out products or services for editorial coverage. So when I received an email for a workout to get into killer shape in only two 20-minute sessions per week, I was skeptical.

My curiosity won. I no longer wanted 90 minutes 5-6 days a week in weight training, but I wanted results.

I visited InForm Fitness in Malibu and met with founder Adam Zickerman, bestselling author of Power of 10, that explains his weight training techniques and philosophy.

Adam is a perfect advertisement for InForm. In superb shape, he said he only lifts weights for 20 minutes once a week. Many pro bodybuilders and athletes spend hours sculpting their bodies and Adam was every bit as fit.

Adam explained I would do one “set†per machine lasting 2-3 minutes; each repetition would take 20 seconds. Attention to form and the slow pace create the results in a short workout period along with the InForm philosophy of rest and a healthy diet.

After the workout I realized that the InForm technique had possibilities – not just for me, but also as an editorial piece. However, I told Adam that I needed a better story, like a rehab, for our publications.

I stayed in touch for a while, but life moved on, and I put it in the back of my mind.

Then I became ill; I landed in the hospital with pneumonia. A month later, I had lost over 10% of my body weight, and with it, all the muscle tone I’d worked hard for all these years. I looked like I was anorexic. I was very weak and slow to recover.

Six weeks later, I was still not up to par. I realized I had become the perfect subject for a story on InForm Fitness. I talked to Adam and he agreed. So 2 months after I’d been discharged from the hospital, I began a regimen at InForm under the guidance of Tom Flower, the InForm Malibu trainer.

Tom put me on 20-minute twice-weekly sessions to start. Tom explained that the weight I’d be using would “fire†the muscle fibers so deeply that I would be “spent†by the last repetition in my 2-3 minutes on each machine. I did no other workouts of any kind for 3 1/2 months with InForm.

I started feeling a difference from the first workout. In 4 weeks I realized that I was actually seeing results in 20-minute sessions that I used to get spending hours with traditional weight training workouts. And the InForm philosophy of rest and recovery meant that I had more time for fun. It is actually recommended that no other weight training be done with it.

InForm Malibu trainer Dorothy Storm taught me that Power of 10 builds lean muscle up to 50% faster than other training, encouraging the body to burn fat. I was amazed by the speed with which my body was returning to fitness and strength.

InForm’s training programs are actually significantly more cost effective than regular sessions with a trainer. Sessions are only twice a week in the beginning, and eventually only once per week so the cost becomes a fraction of traditional workouts.

I would never have believed this type of fitness was possible, until I had the experience. I will never go back to the old traditional method. InForm is truly the future of weight training.
