The Reservoir Play Opens at Geffen Playhouse

The play follows Josh, whose life is unraveling, as he receives unconventional support from his grandparents. Their unsolicited advice, judgments, and antics—like dragging him to Jazzercise—form the heart of the story, blending humor with themes of family and healing

A new play titled The Reservoir, written by Jake Brasch and directed by Shelley Butler, premiered Thursday at the Gil Cates Theater.

The production, running through July 20 in partnership with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Alliance Theatre, features actors Adrián González, Marin Hinkle, Jake Horowitz, Liz Larsen, Carolyn Mignini, Geoffrey Wade, and Lee Wilkof.

The play follows Josh, whose life is unraveling, as he receives unconventional support from his grandparents. Their unsolicited advice, judgments, and antics—like dragging him to Jazzercise—form the heart of the story, blending humor with themes of family and healing. The show runs 2 hours and 15 minutes, including an intermission, and includes strobe lighting, loud sound effects, mature content, and profanity. It is recommended for ages 12 and up, with children under 10 not admitted.

Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with additional shows on July 15-17 and 19-20 at 8 p.m. or 2 p.m. Special events include a Community Meetup Night on July 10, 11, 15, and 17, an ASL-interpreted show on July 13 at 2 p.m., and a Talkback Wednesday on July 16 at 8 p.m., with limited availability noted.

The Geffen Playhouse is offering complimentary tickets to firefighters, first responders, wildfire support workers, and those affected by recent LA wildfires for remaining 2024/2025 season shows. Tickets range from $25 to $75, with all sales final and no refunds or late seating allowed.

The box office at 10886 Le Conte Avenue is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m., reachable at 310.208.2028 or boxoffice@geffenplayhouse.org.
